Hello – I’m Mike Monday.
No, it’s not my real name – the name I was born with doesn’t trip off the tongue so easy. (Unless of course you happen to be fluent in Sanskrit – an ancient version of Bengali. I’m half Indian believe it or not.)
The name I came into this wonderful world with is Michael Avik Mukhopadhyay. But yes, of course – you can call me Mike Monday. 🙂
If you’re into electronic music you might have some of my old tunes knocking around on a cd or vinyl somewhere. If you haven’t got any of them (which is much more likely), after studying music at Oxford University I was an electronic music producer and DJ of some repute from 1994 to 2010.
Now I’ve produced more music than most. In the 17 years I was in the game I had well over 300 tracks commercially released, most of them on vinyl. in many different genres. I was also lucky enough to have performed to tens of thousands of people in over 20 countries.
But when I wrote and played music- my “inspiration” was sporadic and I thought it came along randomly.
But when it did, WOW!
The music just flowed through me. It didn’t seem like work, it was almost completely effortless. Time stood still (I’d even forget to eat and sleep) and what I created was so good compared to my usual stuff that I wasn’t even sure it was me!
(Sometimes I’d even have to check with someone else that I hadn’t accidentally copied something I’d remembered from somewhere else.)
Anyway, you know what it’s like when that happens. You do more in a day than in a month and the music is INCREDIBLE.
So as time went on I got increasingly obsessed with what made the difference between “inspired Mike” and “stuck Mike”. How could the same person who’d knocked out a tune so easily one day be procrastinating, fearful and dithering the next?
Same guy – totally different results.
And I started noticing certain patterns and strategies in my thought, words and actions that seemed to make a difference. But I still couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
Then, about a year ago I discovered a methodology that fitted and expanded upon what I had noticed in myself. There were certain things that I was doing when inspired, loving it and hyper-productive, and not doing when bored, struggling and stuck.
I tried these techniques on myself and it worked like a dream. I then started trying it on others and it did the same.
When I realised this, I knew I had to bring it to other musicians who wanted to get into that flow state on demand. The stuff I’ve learnt has made such a difference in my life that I felt it was my responsibility to help others.
But I wasn’t sure quite how to do it or how it would be received. My natural urge was to stay in my “safe” studio writing my tunes. But when I thought of how powerful these techniques are, I just knew I couldn’t keep it to myself.
So even though it wasn’t an easy decision, my life has taken an unexpected turn. I emigrated to Sydney, Australia from the UK (another unforeseen by-product of my discovery) in 2011 and I’m now coaching musicians to achieve this state of effortless inspiration more readily and easily with some spectacular results.
Now if you’re interested in getting similar results you’re in luck. While I do keep my family fed and watered through my paid programs, I also give back to the universe by creating a load of free shizz.
Best next step for you is to start with this video which solves a problem 99% of the music producers I’ve worked with have had at some point. Including me!
